20 Wax Figures, Soon to be in Bronze!

I modeled all of these figures directly in microcrystalene wax, no mold making was used. I have battled all summer trying to keep them from melting/falling over. Any supports will be removed once the figure is cast in bronze. The Bronze pour is probably going to happen on Monday and then I will clean up the castes, try some different chemicals to get different patina's and then mount them on marble or wood bases. I will try to get a video of the bronze pour on Monday(UPDATE: CASTING IS HAPPENING THURSDAY WILL UPDATE AFTERWORDS) to give everyone an idea of what it is like. Please, if you like what I am doing support my trip to Italy by clicking donate at the bottom of the page, thanks so much! Assuming all of these come out in bronze, anyone who donates $250 or more will receive a sculpture of his or her choice(ask for availability).

Apollo and Daphne WIP shots

Usually I am not to fond of uploading work in progress shots but my friend Stan Mullins suggested that I show the public what I am up to. I figured I owe it to the Blog viewers especially since I mentioned doing some plant studies for this particular sculpture in my last video. This is Apollo and Daphne, the legend is that Cupid shot Apollo to love Daphne and shot Daphne to despise Apollo. A chase ensued until Daphne's mother turned her into a laurel tree to release her from her fate. The obssession continued for Apollo, he visited the tree daily and started the tradition of important figures wearing crowns of laurel leaves.

I have worked many hours on this under the direction of Tim Bruckner.

Rodin, The Figure in Bronze

I visited Dahlonega GA last week with a couple of friends to check out the closing of the Rodin Exhibit.  Overall it was a great experience to see many pieces by Rodin.  That said the display was pretty rough, very few of the pieces were lit properly and many were far below eye level making them hard to view.  I did the best that I could with my camera but wasn't able to get many good photos due to how the pieces were displayed.  I still learned a lot and have used the pictures that did come out as reference for some pieces I am working on.
